You\, your friends\, and counselors will listen to loons while cooking up a hot breakfast over the crackling campfire\, then will pack up and canoe yourself to the next adventure. Join us on a five-day and four-night trip to Northern Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area\, where you will tackle a week of primitive camping and get the chance to explore the natural beauty of the great Northwoods. Get ready for the adventure of sleeping outdoors in a tent\, canoeing daily\, and meeting some of your best friends. We’ll be paddling and portaging to a new campsite almost every night! The first few days will be designated for preparation and planning at Camp Sacajawea before our trek and travel trip. Note: Campers must be able to pass a swim test and tread water for one minute. \nHighlights of this session: \n\nGo primitive camping for five days.\nGo on an off-site camping trip to Northern Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area.\nCook meals over a campfire.\nSleep in a pop-up tent.\nCanoe from campsite to campsite.\nLearn about planning a backpacking trip.\n\nTravel Campers: All specialized backpacking gear is provided by the camp. You’ll gain hands-on experience in learning to lead\, child development\, outdoor skills\, responsibility\, conflict resolution\, working with a diverse group\, and group dynamics. In the second year\, in addition to camp activities\, you’ll learn more about working with younger campers and will have the opportunity to lead them in camp activities. From reaching new heights in the treetops\, navigating the river in a kayak\, relaxing with a good book in a hammock\, and swapping stories and songs by the campfire\, you’ll experience all that camp has to offer on this three-week leadership journey. \nCITs will have a session break from 1:30 p.m. on July 18\, 2025\, through 1:30 p.m. on July 21\, 2025. CITs must plan to leave camp during this session break. \nScheduling accommodation may be made if a camper has to miss a few days of this program. CIT I is not required to participate in CIT II.
