Art Gallery Tour and Art Class

The Hoyt Sherman Art Gallery was created 1907 by the Des Moines Women’s Club. The majority of the art was collected from 1885-1905 but the gallery also owns two pieces from the Renaissance period. The collection includes, painting, sculptures and carved wooden furniture. We are open for tours and art class for art badges. Normal building hours are 9am-5pm Monday through Friday but we can make arrangements for evening and weekend meeting times.

Tour of location including gallery, mansion and theater. $5.00 per person. Comes with short Pick a Painting Worksheet.

Add a class for $200 up to 8 scouts and 1 adult ($25.00 for each extra scout)

OR $30.00 per student, minimum 5 scouts.

Maximum class size is 16 scouts. Additional chaperones no charge.

1 Hour Classes to select from: Painting, Drawing, Photography.

Badge Opportunities:

Outdoor Art Apprentice (grades 6-8)

Outdoor Art Master (grades 11-12)

Photographer (Grades 11-12) Digital Camera needed that has manual functions.

Digital Photographer (grades 4-5) Cellphone needed with camera and editing capabilities.

Drawing (grades 4-5)

3 weeks notice required to schedule classes.

Do to the nature of our theater venue we cannot book events more than 60 days in advance in order to avoid conflicts with performances in the building.
