

Trail Blazers: Backpacking Yellow River, July 12-17

Gear up for the ultimate outdoor experience as you head out on an unforgettable backpacking trip to Yellow River State Forest in northeast Iowa! Surrounded by stunning natural beauty, you’ll learn essential wilderness camping skills—from planning, packing, and carrying your backpack to setting up camp and cooking outdoors. Watch the sunset from a gorgeous scenic overlook as you end your day. This three-day, two-night immersive adventure will take up most of the week, giving you plenty of time to bond with your fellow camp friends and turn every trail into a memory. Along the way, you’ll build confidence, teamwork, and a deeper connection to nature. When you’re back at Camp Tanglefoot, the fun continues with classic camp activities like swimming, boating, and archery.
Highlights of this session:
– Out-of-camp backpacking experience (three days, two nights).
– Watch the sunset from a scenic overlook.
– Hike through a beautiful forest.
All specialized backpacking gear is provided by the camp. Campers will want sturdy shoes and must be able to carry a backpack full of personal items and gear while hiking through the beautiful and steep terrain.
