Trefoil Trek Challenge

Welcome to the Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa’s Trefoil Trek Challenge, part of the Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend! The Trefoil Trek encourages Girl Scouts to explore the beauty of our state parks while taking on fun and engaging challenges. Whether you’re into geocaching or prefer a nature walk scavenger hunt, there’s something for everyone! 

How to Participate 

1. Choose your Challenge: 

    • Geocaching: Use a GPS or a smartphone to find the geocaching location along your hike. 
    • Nature Walk Scavenger Hunt: Follow a list of nature items to find while exploring the park on your hike. 

2. Plan Your Visit: 

  • Select one of the participating state parks from the list below. 
  • Download the instructions for your chosen challenge.

3. Complete the Challenge: 

  • Head to the state park and start your trek! Look for the Trefoil Trek sign at the start of the trail.  
  • Make sure to follow the park rules and respect nature.

4. Claim Your Patch: 

  • After completing the challenge, scan the QR code on the Trefoil Trek sign at the park. 
  • Follow the instructions to claim your free patch.

What to Bring: 

  • Comfortable walking shoes 
  • Water and snacks 
  • A GPS device or smartphone for geocaching 
  • A printout of the scavenger hunt list (if applicable) 
  • Weather-appropriate clothing 

Safety Tips: 

  • Stay on marked trails 
  • Keep an eye on the weather 
  • Let someone know your plans 
  • Be aware of wildlife and plants 

Join us for a weekend of adventure, discovery, and fun! The Trefoil Trek Challenge is a great way to connect with nature, learn new skills, and earn a unique patch to commemorate your journey. We can’t wait to see you out there!
